todd-houseThere was a recent facebook meme going around where people would go to urbandictionary.com, search for their first name, and post the “definition” in their facebook status.  When I did this for my name, the first listing was a fairly accurate description of how popular culture (especially movies) depicts the name Todd:

Male displaying generic “frat-guy” behavior traits. Is not necessarily in an actual fraternity, or in college for that matter. Constantly asserts his manliness through loud obnoxious boasts relating to topics that can include, but are not limited to, penis size, car size, how drunk he got/how many “bitches” were at/he had sex with at the party, bench pressing, and possibly irrational exaggerations with regard to extreme sports that he is, in reality, probably not that good at.

“Shut up, Dahlhauser! I saw you getting shut down by that chick at the Delta Chi party last night! Quit being such a todd!”

“That guy thinks he can chug an entire keg. What a todd.”

Later, I went back to find that not only did this definition get voted down (a lot), but a number of more positive definitions began to appear, and were picking up steam.  Currently the top spot reads:

A young romantic boy, often very slender and lean but not anorexic looking. Todd’s are sweet and have great sense’s of humor. Strong but not Arnold looking. Todd’s often have black eyes and golden brown hair. Mariah’s often fall for Todd’s.

“As Todd’s lips formed the words, the entire classroom laughed.”
I can only guess that a “Todd” himself put this definition up there after being dissatisfied with the previous one he found (via the facebook meme).  Lame…


But despite the childish nickname “Toad” and the fact that people sometimes hear “Scott” when I introduce myself (it doesn’t make sense to me either), there’s nothing wrong with the name Todd.  Sure, the name is associated with idiotic characters like Todd Chester, the snooty next door neighbor to the Griswalds in Christmas Vacation, and the blissfully ignorant Todd Flanders, kid neighbor of the Simpsons.  Us Todds just have to accept hollywood’s use of our name as a secondary character with forgivable personality flaws.  Frankly, I like the nickname: T-O-Double…

Very recently, however, Caesars released an Ad spot that turned the tables for guys named Todd everywhere.  Take a look:
